Sound familiar?

  • Can’t I just reuse the old contract and change the names?

  • I don’t even know which agreement I need.

  • If the wording is wrong, will it come back and hurt me?

  • A lawyer for every small deal? That is weeks of waiting.

  • They sent me their draft. I’m just supposed to trust it?

If any of these is you, you are in good company. Most business owners were never taught to read a contract.

What it costs to wing it

A deal with nothing in writing

When money, deadlines and delivery are not written down, a disagreement becomes a guessing game about who promised what.

A template built for another deal

An old contract can leave out what matters for this deal, and keep terms you never meant to give.

Terms you signed without reading

Accepting the other side’s draft means agreeing to every clause in it, including the ones you do not understand.

Hours lost on routine paperwork

Starting every simple agreement from a blank page is slow, for you and for anyone you ask to help.

None of this is bad luck. It is missing information.

Nobody taught you this.

Schools do not teach contracts. Friends pass on whatever worked for them. Online templates ignore the details of your deal.

That is a gap in the system, not in you. You do not need a law degree. You need the right questions, in plain words, in the right order.

Written by lawyers. Assembled by rules. Never improvised.

Behind it is Messrs Akmal Saufi & Co, advising Malaysian businesses since 2014 and acting for well-known brands.

  • Lawyer-approved clauses

Every clause comes from our knowledge base of more than a decade. Lawyers write and approve it before it can appear in a draft.

  • Your answers decide the clauses

Fixed rules, written by lawyers, choose what goes in. Your draft is not written by AI on the spot.

  • English and Bahasa Malaysia

Every clause has a matching version in both languages. Nothing is machine-translated.

  • A Word file that is yours

Edit it, share it, or send it to your own lawyer for a second look.

There are real people behind this.

Legal That Works is a team of lawyers and colleagues at Messrs Akmal Saufi & Co, with offices in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru. We have been advising Malaysian businesses since 2014. Our lawyers write the clauses, and when you add a review, one of them goes through your draft with you.

A first draft is a start. A lawyer makes it yours.

This platform turns your answers into a first draft, so you never start from a blank page. It works only from your answers. It cannot weigh the circumstances of your business. A lawyer can.

What the draft does

  • Turns your answers into a complete first draft in Word.
  • Uses clauses written by lawyers from our knowledge base of more than a decade, picked by your answers.
  • Gives you something real to read, edit and discuss.
  • Saves time before you speak to a lawyer or to the other side.

What a lawyer can add

  • Looks at your real circumstances, not only your answers.
  • Suggests the right approach and the right agreement for your business.
  • Shapes the terms to fit your deal and protect your position.
  • Spots risks and gaps that a set of questions cannot ask about.

Please read this

The draft is a general first draft prepared from your answers. It is not legal advice, and no lawyer has reviewed your answers unless you chose Generate agreement + lawyer review. It may not suit your circumstances. A true agreement is one that fits your circumstances, and for that you need a lawyer. Please get legal advice before you sign or rely on it.

A review session goes through your draft and answers with you. For advice on approach, or an agreement shaped around your business, book your first consultation with one of our lawyers.

Why this changes how you start an agreement

A first draft is only worth having if it is a good one, and if you know what to do next. Here is what is different from the usual ways of getting there.

  • The usual way: Copy an old contract or a template you found online.

Here: Answer plain questions. Clauses written by Malaysian lawyers are picked to fit your answers.

  • The usual way: Ask a chatbot and hope the wording holds up.

Here: Every clause is written by a lawyer in advance. Nothing is made up on the spot.

  • The usual way: Wonder which agreement you even need.

Here: The Agreement Finder asks a few questions and suggests the likely agreement.

  • The usual way: Search for a Bahasa Malaysia version, or translate it yourself.

Here: Every clause exists in English and Bahasa Malaysia, written by lawyers.

  • The usual way: Find out only after paying that you needed a lawyer.

Here: When a draft is not the right tool, it says so before you pay, and points you to a consultation.

  • The usual way: Not know the cost until you are already committed.

Here: See the outline and the price, SST included, before you pay.

  • The usual way: Type the same company details into every new document.

Here: Save your business details once, and the next agreement starts with them filled in.

  • The usual way: Go looking for a lawyer to check it.

Here: Add a lawyer review, or book a consultation, in the same place.

A first draft will not do a lawyer’s thinking for you. It gets you to that conversation faster, with something real in your hands.

Is this right for you?

Made for you if

  • You run or work in a Malaysian business and need an agreement for a deal, a hire or a partner.
  • You have no legal background and no in-house lawyer.
  • You have not signed yet, or you are about to.
  • You want to see what you are getting, and what it costs, before you commit.
  • You would rather answer questions than face a blank page.

Talk to us first if

  • You are buying or selling property.
  • You need security or a debenture.
  • You want to change or extend an agreement you already signed.
  • Foreign law applies, or the work is done outside Malaysia.
  • Your business needs a licence or approval to do what it does.

For these, we offer a consultation. Where a draft is still possible, we tell you what we have not checked before you pay.

Questions, answered

Can I rely on the draft?

Treat it as a first draft. It follows your answers, but it cannot weigh the circumstances of your business. The clauses are written by lawyers, yet no one can promise an outcome for any agreement, and a draft does not replace a lawyer’s advice on your situation. For a large or unusual deal, add a lawyer review or book a consultation.

Why not just ask an AI to write my agreement?

AI can be useful for explaining a term or brainstorming. But a chatbot writes new wording every time, and it can sound sure of itself when it is wrong, out of date or has not considered your facts. Here, every clause was written by a lawyer first. Your answers choose which clauses go in and fill in the blanks, so nothing is made up on the spot. Both languages are written by lawyers too, not machine-translated. And if you want a person, a licensed lawyer goes through your draft with you.

I don’t know which agreement I need.

Use the Agreement Finder. Answer a few simple questions and it suggests the likely agreement, with what it covers and the price.

What if my situation is unusual?

If nothing fits, tell us what you need and we get back to you. If your matter needs a lawyer, we say so before you pay and offer a consultation.

Why do I pay before the detail questions?

First you see which agreement fits, what it covers and the price. After you pay, the detail questions open for 60 days, so you can save and return.

What if I do not finish in 60 days?

The draft expires and the fee is not refunded. We email reminders at day 30, day 50 and day 57, so you are not caught out.

Can I edit the draft?

Yes. It is a normal Word file. Edit it, share it, or send it to your own lawyer for a second look.

Does a lawyer check my agreement?

Only if you choose Generate agreement + lawyer review. With Generate agreement, the draft is built from lawyer-approved clauses and no lawyer reviews your individual answers.

Do I need an account?

Not to look around. To start drafting, you sign in with your email and a 6-digit code we send you. There is no password.

Get your agreement in order before you sign.

Start with a few plain questions. No password, no jargon.

This does not replace legal advice on your particular situation. For a complex deal, add a lawyer review.
